Jan. 6: Council to Hold Special Meetings this Week

Council to Hold Special Meetings on City’s Future

The City Council will hold two special meetings this week regarding the future of Marina’s development.

The first meeting, scheduled Tuesday, Dec. 7, will address what’s called the Marina Arts Village, located at the corner of 1st Avenue and 8th Street. At present, the site is a mess, but the potential is being envisioned. On Tuesday, Dec. 7, the Marina City Council will hold a special meeting at the site to discuss a partnership with Shea Homes on its future renovation.

While called a “village,” the site is actually five attached buildings of about 1,000 feet in length. There is a proposal to remove the center building. The potential uses of the building are much broader than just “arts” and potentially include restaurants, retail, light industrial, a museum, a space for performing arts and offices.

The city has allocated $1,350,000 towards the stabilization and rehabilitation of the buildings. It will need hazardous material testing and cleanup, debris removal, building demolition, painting, fencing, and a lot of repairs.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. at the site and the public, however, since this is a hazardous materials site, everyone must remain together in the group and cannot roam around the site or inside the building independently. Click here to view the agenda.

General Plan Update

On Thursday, Jan. 9, the City Council will receive a presentation on the final draft of the Preferred Land Use Map for the General Plan Update.

This process started back in 2022. There have been public workshops, meetings, and online surveys in an attempt to gauge the public’s thoughts. Thursday’s meeting will practically mirror a presentation made to the City Council in November, but will have a little more detail and minor updates.

There have been a number of changes made to the current land use map. A number of land-use designations and categories are to be changed. For instance, there will be a new “Very High Density Residential” area downtown to allow for future higher-density, taller apartment buildings. The airport is also a focus for changes, with new Aviation Support Low and High designations. A full review of the changes and plan is available here.

Homes on the Market

Three Marina homes have entered the market in the past week. The most recent and least expensive is 3114 Flower Circle. A 3-bedroom, 1-bath home with 1,092 SF, this property features a 8,235 SF lot on a cut de sac for $695,000.

Next is 14858 Kit Carson Drive listed at $810,000. With 1,480 SF on a 2,740 SF lot, this 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath home has granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. There are double sinks in the bathrooms, and the garage can fit two cars and still has room for storage.

The highest end home is 319 Sirena Del Mar Road, listed at $1,025,000. It’s a 4-bedroom, 2.5 bath home with 2,095 SF on a 7,245 SF lot. It has a 3-car garage, double sinks, oversized tub and a lot of other amenities. It’s also located on a corner lot, about two miles from the beach.
